FATHERS’ DAY IS A REMINDER OF OUR PRIVILEGE AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Rev. Fr. Collins Asimoya

The officiating priest of the 2018 Fathers’ Day celebration held on Sunday, June 17 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Agbor, in Ika South Local Government Area, Rev. Fr. Collins Asimoya, has called on fathers in the church to be joyful and thankful to God Almighty for making them fathers.

His words, “that you are celebrating today as a father is a privilege from God. Therefore, fathers irrespective of the prevailing circumstance they may be facing now should thank God in a different way for the privilege of being called a father as it is not their making”.

Rev. Fr. Asimoya stated that the Father’s Day celebration is also a reminder for all fathers to examine their conscience if they are living up to their responsibilities as fathers and make amend where necessary. While further stating that God has made fathers the head of the family, he prayed God to continue to strengthen them and provide them the resources to carter for their families. He further admonished fathers to be role models to their children, saying that the children look up to them.

At the reception held in honour of the fathers of the church, the chairman of the occasion, Hon. Solomon Osih urged them to strive to be good and responsible fathers at all times by living up to their responsibilities whenever they are called upon.

The Parish Priest of the church, Very Rev. Fr. Pius Okowuagwu on his part commended the fathers, enjoining them to wake up to their responsibilities. He wished them a happy Fathers’ Day celebration.
