ACC. Britus stated that they have been on sensitization to Churches and other domains inhabited by road users since September 2018, saying that safety is the business of all.
In his words, ‘Safety is the business of each and every one of us. What we usually see when we are called for an emergency is appalling.Ā Our driving attitude is very poor. We have resolved that if anyone is caught driving through one way, we will refer such a person to Central Hospital Agbor to ascertain the mental capacity and when he is certified fit, Ā we will then charge him to court for prosecution’.
He also lamented the excessive speeding of most drivers on busy roads, drinking and driving, and other related offenses, calling for a change in the driving habits of road users.
He opined that beating traffic, plying one way and other related traffic offenses have led to many accidents which in turn can take the lives of innocent citizens. He further stated that it is a wrong practice to overtake by the right hand side of the road, saying that whosoever does that is at fault.
Hammering on the essence of driver’s license, he maintained that anyone caught without his/her driver’s license will be termed a criminal. He categorically stated that those without licenses have no business on the high way. He therefore called on members of the public without licenses to visit the licensing office besides Ika South Local Government Council to obtain theirs for the stipulated fee. He admonished them to obtain their licenses from the appropriate authorities to avoid being defrauded or deceived.
He warned parents to refrain from allowing children below 18 years of age to drive, stating that when caught, they will be prosecuted.
He ended by speaking on the essence of plate number registration, stating that its importance cannot be over emphasized.
