In a bid to maintain the existing peace in Ika South Local Government Area, and in accordance with the directive of the State Government, Hon. Barr. Victor Okoh has held his first peace and security meeting.
The meeting which took place at his office on Monday 12th February had in attendance, representatives of the Dein of Agbor Kingdom, Representative of the Obi of Abavo, representatives from all security outfits in Ika South, representatives of Arewa Community and representatives of Miyeti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Socio-Cultural Association as well as some senior staff of the Council, who brain stormed on ways to ensure that peace and Unity is maintained in the LGA, in the face of the Fulani Herdsmen menace being faced by local governments in other states.
Presiding over the meeting, Hon. Victor Okoh said there can be no peace and development in the face of crisis or security challenges, hence the need to tackle such challenges by taking pro active measure to forestall them.
He therefore charged members of Arewa Community and Miyeti Allah Association to broker peace with Ika South people, in order to continue promoting peaceful co existence amongst each other.
Addressing security outfits, he charged them to always be at alert so they can detect abnormalities or foul plays in various Communities in their various capacities. Going further, he reiterated the stance of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, saying that there is no land for cattle Colony in Ika South.
He however assured that the people of Ika South are peaceful and accommodating, assuring they will not attack Herdsmen as long as they themselves are not attacked.
Representatives of Arewa Community and Miyeti Allah Association affirmed their willingness to work with the security outfits to maintain peace, in order to ensure that the Fulani Herdsmen menace does not occur in Ika South. They said they consider themselves, Agbor indigenes; hence they will do all in their power to maintain peace.
On their part, Security operatives comprising the Nigerian Army, Agbor Command, Nigerian Police Force , Agbor and Abavo Divisions, Department of State Security Service, Ika South, Civil Defense, Agbor Gha Ihun, Vigilantes and others reassured of their readiness to work round the clock to maintain the existing peace in the Local Government. Hon. Okoh promised to hold regular meetings with security operatives.
