As the 2019 general election draws closer, members of Akumazi Political Gladiators in Akumazi-Umuocha in Ika North East LGA of Delta State on Saturday, November 10, 2018 held an enlarged meeting to discuss issues that would help to move their community forward as well as giving maximum support to the APC flag bearer for House of Representatives, Mr. Sebastine Okoh.

Speaking during the meeting, the Akumazi Political Gladiators through one of their members, Pastor Iyke A. disclosed that they would massively vote and support Sebastine Okoh, saying that he is the only man that has shown great concern towards the growth and development of Akumazi-Umuocha. In his words, “Mr. Sebastine Okoh has on several occasions put smile on the faces of many including Akumazi indigenes. The constant light in some of the communities, including Akumazi, Umunede, Igbodo was made possible by Sebastine. He brought love and unity among Ika people through the popular Ika Carnival which he is the initiator. It is only an unhinged person that would leave Sebastine Okoh and vote for those who have abandoned us.”

The group commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his good work in Delta State, saying that he has done very well since he came into power as governor but others who have disappointed the people of Akumazi-Umuocha adding that they would never give room for further deceit of any kind.

According to him, “Every election year, Akumazi gives PDP maximum votes and support but since then, we have not received any democratic dividends from them. We are not against PDP as a party but those we voted for have completely neglected us and we are not happy. They have not done anything for Akumazi. For the past 18years, we have been begging the government to construct the Akumazi/Ekwuoma road which has become a death trap but our appeal has always fallen fell on deaf ears. They have made several promises to us but fulfilled none. They come to us when they need our votes. They have given street lights, construct roads and built hospitals for other communities and we are left behind. Did Akumazi commit any crime voting them?

Also speaking, another member of Akumazi Political Gladiators, Engr. Iyadi Isaac stated that the people have the right to choose their representative in government, stressing that Sebastine Okoh has proven to Ika people, particularly Akumazi community that he has them at heart and as such, they will massively vote for him come 2019. In his words, “Akumazi-Umuocha has been forsaken and cheated. This time, we have the right and privilege to make a choice. Our choice is Sebastine Okoh. We have done so much for PDP and yet nothing to show for it. They only come to us when they need our vote.”

On his part, the Chairman of the group, Mr. Paul Onweani expressed disappointment towards the present administration, adding that those they gave their votes has given up on them. He disclosed that time has come for them to rise and defend their community, saying that they have on many occasions been deceived and poorly treated over the years. Mr. Onweani concluded that Akumazi-Umuocha must be respected and also should enjoy the dividends of democracy which other communities are enjoying.
