The five abducted College of Education (COE), Agbor staff on Monday, June 22, 2020 regained their freedom.
Ika Weekly gathered that the kidnapped staff of the College Dr. Kenneth Ughamadu (rtd), Mr. Nosieri Kent, alongside their wives and one Iwekaogwu Onyeka Meshack were on their way back to Agbor from the traditional marriage ceremony of the daughter of the former registrar of the college, Mr. Oscar Osagiede in Igbanke on Friday evening, June 19, 2020 when they were kidnapped at Ottah.
The abductors were said to be suspected herdsmen, armed with sophisticated weapons. They ambushed the victims, forced them out of their vehicles and led them away through a bush path. The news of their abduction was received by College of Education Agbor community and the entire Ika nation with a great shock. The kidnapped victim regained their freedom three days after series of negotiation and an alleged payment of Nine Million (9m) as ransom.
The former acting Provost of College of Education, Agbor, Dr. Mrs. Josephine Konyeme narrowly escaped with bullets marks on her car.
Meanwhile, there has been jubilation among the family members of the abductees and the entire staff of College of Education, Agbor, as they were released unharmed.
The Delta State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya has said the adoption occurred in Edo State jurisdiction. According to her, “I have called the DPO in Agbor and he said it happened within Edo State jurisdiction. Their vehicle has been recovered and taken to Igbanke Divisional Police Headquarters,” she added.
At the time of filing this report, the abductees were indisposed as a result of the shock.
