ANIOMA ASSOCIATION OF WASHINGTON, D.C. USA BACKS ANIOMA STATE MOVEMENT, ADVOCATES FOR NEW STATE CREATION

By Loveth Okolie

The Anioma Association in Washington, D.C., under the leadership of Dr. Otado Christian Mbulu, has voiced its full support for the Anioma State Movement, an initiative seeking the creation of an Anioma State out of Delta State in Nigeria. Advocates of the movement argue that establishing an Anioma State would not only enhance local governance and economic development but would also provide a stronger sense of identity and political representation for the Anioma people.

As a cultural organization committed to preserving and promoting Anioma heritage, the Anioma Association in Washington DC, USA believes that the creation of a separate state is a critical step toward greater autonomy, recognition, and economic opportunity for Anioma communities. Members of the association have been actively engaged in raising awareness of the Anioma State Movement among the diaspora community in the United States, emphasizing the potential benefits for development, infrastructure, and cultural preservation in the Anioma region.

In a recent statement, Dr. Otado C. Mbulu, on behalf of his members, including founders, elders, and past presidents of the association, expressed the association’s solidarity with the movement and underscored the importance of the new state for the Anioma people. “We are proud to stand with the Anioma State Movement in its efforts to secure a brighter future for our people. An Anioma State would not only give us a distinct political and cultural identity within Nigeria but would also open up opportunities for indigenous-based investment, development, and improved highly needed public services,” Dr. Mbulu said.

The Anioma Association in Washington DC will continue to rally support and educate the public on the goals of the Anioma State Movement. Their advocacy channels have included discussions on the potential impact of statehood on issues such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic empowerment within the Anioma communities.

Advocates argue that a separate Anioma State would address longstanding concerns regarding the allocation of resources and representation within Delta State. They point to the distinct linguistic, cultural, and historical identity of Anioma communities, which they feel could be better served by a dedicated state government. By establishing an Anioma State, the movement believes that local leaders could make more targeted decisions on behalf of Anioma residents, fostering progress in areas that have been historically underrepresented or overlooked.

With a strong sense of pride in their heritage and a vision for a prosperous future, members of Anioma Association in Washington DC Metropolitan Area, USA are hopeful that the creation of an Anioma State will not only preserve their cultural identity but also lay the foundation for sustainable growth and self-determination. The association believes that this movement will allow the Anioma people to flourish under a state government that truly understands and prioritizes their needs, fostering unity and development in the process.

As Anioma State movement gains momentum, the Anioma Association of Washington, D.C., stands ready to continue its support, viewing the creation of Anioma State as a critical milestone in preserving and advancing the legacy of Anioma people both in Nigeria and in the diaspora.
