Members of Agbor Community Union (ACU) have in a maiden meeting with political heads and stakeholders in Agbor held recently, at the community, urged the people of Agbor community to ensure peaceful and credible elections come 2019.
The President General of the Union, Mr. Larry Onyeche, in an address to party heads and stakeholders to opt for a non-violent poll, stressing the need to sustain the peace that the people of Agbor have been enjoying in recent times. “Ndi Agbor, we have to avoid politics of desperation. It should be played without bitterness or rancor, with our minds focused on the development and welfare of our people,” he said.
Going further, he said, “Now that party primaries are yet to commence let delegates as much as possible vote their consciences with a view to electing candidates that are credible with the good of Agbor Kingdom at heart. I as the President General, must appeal to you all to ensure decorum in the forthcoming elections as peace and love must continue to reign amongst Agbor people,”
In his contribution, the Chairman, Political Committee of the Union, Prof. A. C. Egun, charged aspirants from Agbor to avoid hate speech and denigration of opponents as such would raise tension and increase chances of election violence.
On his part, Chief Charles Nayenba who was among the palace Chiefs delegated to the meeting maintained that the elections should be transparent, credible, and conducted in accordance with the stipulated laws and regulations. He insisted that Agbor course should superimpose all other interests.
Aspirants present at the meeting include: Hon. Festus Okoh, Dr. Philip Okwuada, Mr. Johnny Agbaifo (Mamba say so), Hon. Williams Eluma, Mr. Nduka Omodon, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, represented by Hon. Engr.Andrew Obiazi, and Mr. Lucky Nwonye who donated a wireless public address system to ACU.
