The Executive Chairman Ika South Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Victor Okoh has informed the Council staff of Gov. Okowa’s release of 5billion Naira by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to augment the Paris Club Refund in offsetting the backlog of local government Employee’s salaries in the state.
He gave the assurance while informing the staff of the development during a Congress on Tuesday 25th September 2018 at the Council Secretariat.
The Council Boss noted that in fulfillment of the governors promise to pay Local Government Workers their salaries before December this year, he has graciously mandated that all backlog of salaries owed Local Government workers in the State, particularly, Ika South Local Government be paid.
Confirming the news, the Chairman stated that all outstanding salaries will be paid. He informed the workers that the payment is without condition, stating that it is their right.
He however called on the workers to put in more efforts and dedication in the discharge of their duties to ensure productiveness, now that their salaries will be paid in full. He opined that to whom much is given, much is expected, hence the need for the workers to show more commitment in their jobs. He charged them to work in unity and desist from gossips backbiting and pulling each other down.
Reacting to the news and assurance by the Chairman, the Council staff applauded the Governor, the Council Chairman, and the State NULGE Chairman for the development.
They commended the trio for their dedication towards the workforce of the Local Government .Speaking on behalf of the staff, the Local Government NULGEÂ Chairman, Comr. Lawrence Onahor stated that their dreams and expectation is now a reality having started the journey since 2015.
In his words, ‘I sincerely appreciate his Excellency, the Governor of the State, Dr. Ifeanyi okowa for making our dreams come true. This is our expectation, and he has done it for us. Some States paid 3months, others paid four, but Delta State is paying everything’, he stated.
To this effect, they thumbed up to the Governor, saying that his tenure will be extended till 2023. He further appreciated the Council Chairman, Hon Barr. Victor Okoh for his help towards the health care and support for the staff, revealing that a staff recently did a major surgery, courtesy of the Chairman and HPM. He stated that Ika South Local Government is peaceful, calling on other staff to resist anyone with the intent of sowing seeds of discord among them.
