DAME MERCY ONEKPE

Just as the mothers in Anglican Communion, Nigeria celebrated their day last Sunday, March 11, 2018, Dame Mercy Onekpe, the wife of the Bishop, Anglican Communion Ika Diocese, Rt. Revd Dr. Peter I. Onekpe has enjoined mothers to wake up to their responsibilities for that is what God want from them.

She gave   the charge in sermon at the Mothering Sunday of the St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Owa-Alero, calling on mothers to live godly ways that will make them responsible mothers who will positively support their husbands and be a proud mother to their children. “So, God has given us that responsibility and the accompanying grace to carry it out effectively and to his glory. So, we should realize our roles in the family, the church, and society as whole”.

Dame Onekpe appealed to husbands to continue to love their wives as that will encourage them to be greater mothers. She further admonished the mothers to be good wives and mothers to their husbands and children for the growth of their families. She congratulated all mothers on their celebration, wishing them a Happy Mother’s Day Celebration.

In her address, the wife of the vicar of the church and President, Women Organization, Mrs. Esther Adudu JP welcomed Dame Onekpe (Mama Ika) to St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Owa-Alero.  She encouraged women to take very good care of their parents, spouses and children. She used the opportunity to appreciate her husband, Ven. Dr. Jonathan Adudu and other clergies in the church such as Revd Donatus Ogboi, Curate and Ven. Pat Okoh for their good leadership and prayed God to empower them the more.

Responding, Ven. Dr. Adudu said mothers deserve to be celebrated because of their contributions to the growth of the family and the society. She enjoined the women to always exhibit love and patience as they live their lives, wishing them a Happy Mother’s Day Celebration.
