DTHA PRIMARIES, NO VICTOR, NO VANQUISH, Evang Obiazi

Sep 27, 2018

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faithful and one of the leaders in Ward 9, Ika South, Evang. Obiazi Steve Young has called on the leadership of the party in the Council area to apply the philosophy of “No Victor, No Vanquish,” during the forthcoming Delta State House of Assembly, DTHA primary election.

Evang. Obiazi gave the advice during a visit to Ika Weekly Newspaper Corporate office recently. He advised against winner takes it all, while the looser goes home crying, and advocated leverage for whosoever loses in the election.

While wishing his party members in the two local government areas of Ika Land and Delta State peaceful primaries, he enjoined the party delegates to vote for candidates that are the choice of the electorate in order to avoid defeat by the opposition party or protest by party faithful. Speaking on the aspirants for the State House of Assembly Seat, he stated that the contest would be between the incumbent member in the house; Hon. Festus Okoh fondly referred to as Chuky Dandy and Amb. Paul Alika, also known as the Game Changer by his admirers. He noted that both men are young and capable for the position, but was quick to add that he would prefer the candidate that has been tested, the one who is humble, accessible and has delivered the dividends of democracy to his people.

Speaking further, he stated that there is no limitation to the number of years an elected Councillor, House of Representative Member or a Senator should serve, saying that a parliamentarian can go to the house as many times as possible, emphasizing that what matters is what the person is able to attract for his people and the person’s impact in the house.

Continuing, he disclosed that among all the persons that have represented Ika Federal Constituency at the green Chambers in Abuja, none of them can be compared to Hon. Victor Nwokolo, the incumbent member at the Federal House of Representatives, judging from his antecedents, how he continually remembers the members and politicians of Ika Federal Constituency, emphasizing that Hon. Victor Nwokolo has really touched the hearts of his constituents more than any legislature before him.

Evang. Obiazi noted that there are several issues surrounding the choice of the candidate that would represent Ika Federal Constituency, saying that many people have been asking whether the slot would be given to Ika North East or Ika South. He opined that though there should be equity, fairness and justice, yet maintained that he does not play clannish politics. Hence, whosoever the delegates believe is the best candidate based on the evidence before them should be voted for.

Speaking on the Delta North Senatorial election, he disclosed that based on his personal findings, Delta North will support Prince Ned Nwoko saying that he will be glad if the party leaders will not jeopardize the interest of the people in order not to concede defeat during the election.

Commenting on the 2019 Governorship election, he stated that His Excellency, Senator, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has performed excellently well in all aspects through his SMART Agenda and Prosperity for All Deltans programmes, saying that he is confident that the State Governor will emerge victorious in the forthcoming election.

On a general note, Evang. Obiazi observed that it is unfortunate the society no longer appreciates integrity, stressing that people of integrity have been pushed aside and are not recognized in their families and societies, a situation, he says is very dangerous to the society . He frowned at the high rate of the quest for materialism, saying that he will be glad if all these vices can be corrected.

Finally, he urged all the participants for the primaries and general elections to have the fear of God and not to sell their conscience, but to vote for the right candidates whom they believe will perform well.
