EBONKA SWEARS IN NEWLY ELECTED IKA NORTH EAST COUNCILLORS

The 20 newly elected councillors of Ika North East Local Government Area in the just concluded March 6, 2021 State Local Government election, have been sworn-in.

Inaugurating the Councillors on Monday, March15, 2021, the LG Council chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Victor Ebonka congratulated them on their election success and reminded that they are ambassadors to their wards and the local government as a whole.

Hon. Ebonka further charged them with their constitutional responsibilities which includes law making for the peace order and good governance of Ika North East LGA which covers carrying-out of over sight function and ratification/confirmation of some executive appointments, delivering of a robust, qualitative and effective representation (democracy dividends) to the grass root that you represent and working in synergy with the office of the council chairman and his executive members.

In his words, “You’re all special and privileged as councilors to come from the LGA of the State Governor in the person of Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and my humble self as the State chapter Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON).

“In this vein, you are all expected to be pace setters in excellence for other LGA’s to emulate”.

Continuing, the council chairman assured the councillors of his support in the discharge of duties, while reminding them of the need to work hard to meet the expectations of the people they represent which according to him are higher now.

“Hon. Councillors, the challenges before this administration are enormous; our people look up to us to make life better for them this time. It is on this note that I solicit your support and cooperation to enable us steer the ship of Ika North East Local Government Council and move it to the next level. Now that you have been given the mandate by your people to serve them, you are expected to live above board, be broadminded and above all have it at the back of your mind that we can only move this local government forward through hard work, dialogue and sense of commitment. You are equally expected to put the interest of your people above personal interest”, Hon. Ebonka said.

The chairman concluded by wishing the councillors successful tenure in office and appreciated all those present for coming to witness the swearing in ceremony.

Responding on behalf of the newly sworn-in councillors, the Councillor representing the good people of Idumu-Ileje and Ile quarters of Umunede, Hon. Dominic Azubuike pledged their total loyalty and cooperation with the council chairman and all other authorities.
