Hon. Festus Okoh who was addressing newsmen at the scene of the incident on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, stated that when he learnt of the collapse of the Edike market, he decided to come and see things for himself to ascertain the level of damage, stating that as a legislator, his role at the Local Government is advisory, noting that he is not involved in the day to day running of the council.
Speaking further, he said, “when there is a problem, the legislator comes in to supervise or play advisory role, as the Local Government is under the House of Assembly. The legislator cannot be involved in the day to day running of Local Government.
“If the Edike market is temporal going by what the Council Chairman said, the materials used are okay, but if it is not temporal, better materials ought to have been used for the project.”
He described the site of the Edike market as perfect for a modern market as there is vast expanse of land available for use. He applauded the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Barr. Victor Okoh for the excellent idea.
