IKA SOUTH LG BOSS, EHIWARIOR, FELICITATES ASHIEN ON BIRTHDAY

The Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior has felicitated Mr. Steve Ekiri Mekiriuwa Ashien, the Chief Executive Officer and Publisher of Ika Weekly Newspaper, as he marks his 77th birthday anniversary.

Engr. Ehiwarior, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Jonathan Onwuka, said he was happy to celebrate the Ika Weekly publisher because of his many great contributions to society through the newspaper.

He noted that Mr. Ashien’s dedication to community development dates back to the mid-60s when he established the popular Central Books Ltd, where many generations of school children across the defunct Bendel State bought their books and other learning materials.

According to the Chairman, “Mr. Ashien deserves to be celebrated for the long years of service to our community. He was among the pioneer entrepreneurs who established industries in the Ika land. I recall with nostalgia the days of Central Industries Ltd, Ewuru, which produced Master toilet papers, and Snow-White Pulp and Paper Mill Ltd, at Imeobi, owned by Mr. Ashien and other investors, that produced toilet papers in jumbo reels. These companies had in their employ quite a number of our people who earned their living there.

“He was also the first to establish a garbage clearing business in Ika land, with the name Ben Clean, in the mid-80s.

“He later went on to establish the first community newspaper, Ika Weekly, in our environment in 1980. The newspaper has become a credible tool for advocacy and good governance.

“It is a thing of great pride to identify with this man of many good parts who has made deeply impactful contributions to the lives of our people.

“You are indeed everything the younger generations should look up to for inspiration. Though you have had very humble and challenging beginnings, you braved all odds to stand and overcome.

“It is on this note that I, on behalf of my family and the good people of Ika South, wish you a happy birth anniversary and pray for your good health, longevity, and prosperity.”Ika South LG Boss, Ehiwarior, Felicitates Ashien On Birthday
