The former Tactical Commander of Operation Lafia Doyle, Commander Joint National Task Force and a worthy Ika son, Major General Lucky Irabor has called on Ika people to eschew Agbor, Owa, Ute and other clan barriers.
Major General Irabor made the call while speaking on security and development at the maiden edition of Ika Economic Summit put together by Ika Village Square with the theme “Exploiting the Economic Potentials of Ika Nation through Strategic Partnership”.
Gen. Irabor said Ika people are defined by their accommodating nature, boldness, aggression in achievement, and desires to have the good things of life. Speaking further, he said development and security are intertwined, as there is no development in the face of security issues, stating that security challenges repels investors, rather than attract them. Quoting Chimamanda Adichie, he said “an ugly idea left unchallenged turns the color of normal”. Giving solutions to these threats to include; articulation of early warning mechanism incorporating traditional rulers, pursuit of vigorous people oriented law enforcement by the police, public enlightenment on security dynamics, promoting and rewarding honesty through other non monetary forms, free awareness training for youths such as the Economic Summit put together by Ika Village Square (IVS), engaging youths for meaningful development, de-emphasizing thuggery in political aspirations, eschewing Agbor, Owa, Ute barriers amongst others. He added that Ika people are very decent people whose mainstream is their Agronomy environment.
He commended the organizers of the Economic Summit, stating that Ika Village Square is a step in the right direction for repositioning the values of Ika people. Major General Lucky Irabor was presented with an award by Ika Village Square, (IVS) alongside the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Jim Ovia, Godwin Emefiele, and Most Rev Nicholas Orogodo Okoh, all illustrious sons of Ika land.
