There was rain of commendations for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Fide Egwulemu Investment, Ogbuefi Fidelis Mekwuye Egwulemu, when he marked the remembrance of his late parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Mekwuye, who passed on 19 years ago. The event took place on the 29th of December 2024.

The ceremony began with the opening of two gigantic buildings by Ogbuefi Egwulemu to honour his late parents for a life well spent.

Speaking during a brief exaltation to mark the house opening, the General Overseer of Wonderful Grace Assembly, Rev. Joshua Olumide Akinyeye, described Ogbuefi Egwulemu as a man with a large heart whose generosity speaks volumes of his personality wherever his name is mentioned.

According to him, “Ogbuefi Egwulemu’s love for his family is overwhelming to remember their late parents with the opening of new family buildings to immortalize their names. I want to especially appreciate him for living a life not just for his immediate family, but for many who come his way”.

Continuing, Rev. Akinyeye further eulogized Ogbuefi Egwulemu, stating that he is among those whose hard work has paid off hugely and that people who did not know him were speaking evil of him as somebody who engaged in money ritual.

While thanking God for the life of Ogbuefi Egwulemu, the cleric congratulated him for his dedication to hard work. He used the opportunity to encourage all, especially the youths, to look up to successful men like Egwulemu, who didn’t give up but continued pushing to make it in life.

Responding briefly during an interview, the Parish Priest of St Jude Catholic Church, Owa-Oyibu, Rev. Fr. Peter Udoka Osekwute, said it is a good thing for one to remember late parents as a way of appreciating the good life they lived and to mark their memory.

Rev. Fr. Osekwute reiterated that for Ogbuefi Egwulemu to honour his late parents after 19 years with the opening of a house is a wonderful initiative to immortalise their names as one big family for love, peace and unity to continue to take its place. He further urged parents to strive to invest in their children to continue to make them proud even when they are no more.

A relative of late Pa. Mekwuye from Owa-Oyibu, Mrs Ruth Onwuaru, while expressing the joy of the ceremony, stated that it is a celebration in remembrance of a life well-spent by his late uncle and his wives. According to her, “I recall vividly the love and unity that reigned among them even though it was a polygamous home. The hard work and philanthropy of late Pa. Mekwuye is what his son, Fide Egwulemu took from him.

“Late Pa. Mekwuye and his wives are being remembered for the wonderful life they lived to the glory of God”, she stressed.

On his part, one of the sons of late Pa. Mekwuye, Mr Udoji extolled his parents for the good life they lived, which, according to him promoted love, peace and unity. He disclosed that the name Egwulemu, which his elder Fide Egwulemu bears, was a nickname of his late father for being a jolly person who was well known.

In his words, “Embracing hard work despite the delay of success was what our late father taught us. My elder brother and I are testimonies of hard work. Many who knew the life story of Fide Egwulemu becoming a successful person will never be part of those speaking evil of him over engaging in ritual to amass wealth. I want to state that my big brother, Fide Egwulemu is reaping what he sowed in the morning”.

The Lagos-based 5th child of late Pa. Mekwuye, Rev. Mrs Chuks Ngozi said he learnt a lot from his late parents, which include caring for his siblings and embracing hard work with the lesson that there is no food for a lazy man. According to her, “I want to thank God for the life of my parents whose upbringing has made me the strong woman I have become. In all, if there is reincarnation, I will still choose my wonderful parents over again”.

Another relative of late Pa. Mekwuye, Rev. Paul Ogbeide of Spring of Life Fire Ministry, Boji-Boji, Owa, disclosed that the counsel of his late uncle, whose memory is being remembered, saw him becoming a successful person, making him have a Master’s Degree in Educational Management. He said the legacy of late Pa. Mekwuye is being emulated by his son, Fide Egwulemu, whose name he said has become a household name in Owa Kingdom and beyond.

Speaking with newsmen, Ogbuefi Fide Egwulemu declared that his late parents lived a life to be remembered, urging parents to positively impact their children, which, according to him is the hallmark of a good upbringing to become a better person. He said he lacks words to appreciate the large turnout of people to the event, saying that the show of love is massive.
