IGBO-EZUE CRISIS: HASSAN DISTANCES SELF, REGISTERS DISPLEASURE OVER TURN OF EVENT

By Nicholas Ebegboni

Chief Yomi Odunselu Hassan a public analyst, business man and tradomedical practitioner, the Ekwueme 1 of Akumazi kingdom, has distance himself from the ongoing crisis rocking Igbo-ezue just as he disclosed that he has nothing to gain or lose from the matter but was just an individual seeking peace in a community where he has lived for over fifty years.

Chief Hassan advanced that, no responsible individual would see things going wrong or about to go wrong, yet feel relaxed or take the ‘I don’t care’ posture.

The public analyst maintained that he had initially appealed to both parties to let peace reign, but it seems his advice was not of any import to those involved, hence he decided to officially distant himself from the whole controversies.

According to him, none of the actors in the matter were related to him in any form, from the so-called victim to other players in the matter, therefore, he sees no reason or reasons why he should continue to bother himself over people who are not interested in listening to him.

Moreover, Chief Hassan also revealed that he had received threatening calls from individuals who questioned his involvement in the matter. Some even went as far as to remind him that he is not from Ika tribe, insinuating that he had no right to intervene. This kind of behavior, according to Chief Hassan, will not be tolerated, and he warned that he would deal severely with anyone who attempts to threaten him. This statement serves as a warning to those who may have ill intentions towards him, Chief Hassan or anyone else trying to bring peace to the community.

He made it clear once again that he has no personal gain or loss in the matter, but was simply a concerned individual seeking to bring about harmony in his community. He further emphasized that it is the responsibility of every responsible citizen to speak up and take action when they see things going wrong, rather than adopting “I don’t care” attitude.

Chief Hassan wondered why some lawyers would not advice their clients to follow the path of peace, when they fully understand that the issue on ground has nothing to do with who is wrong or right, but how people see or the impression people have about an institution.

Again, Chief Hassan warned all Ika residents to be careful during the ember period as in Africa and Nigeria in particular, the period is a harbinger of bad news, therefore, Ika residents should be very careful where they go, what they say, the people they meet with, and most especially avoid night crawling.

He noted that the Christmas celebration is not a do or die affair, where one would say he or she must do this or that, because one’s neighbors or friends did it.

Meanwhile, he advised women once again not to break their homes because of Christmas, as Christmas as long as the earth exist, would not cease. Based on that, he urged married women to bear, and manage with their husbands, as whatever they couldn’t enjoy today, could be available tomorrow.
