The Ika Diocese of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, on Saturday September 15, 2018, held her 17th Inauguration Anniversary Service; with eighteen persons among others who worked for the creation of the Diocese, were honoured and presented with awards at the Cathedral Church of St. John, Agbor, headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.
In his sermon, the guest preacher, Ven. Professor Mon Nwadiani, from the University of Benin, stated that Ika Diocese was one of the most peaceful Dioceses in the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.
Prof. Nwadiani, commended the pioneer and retiring bishop, the Right Rev. Dr. Peter Imhona Onekpe and his wife, Dame Mercy Yetunde Onekpe.
Saying that unlike some dioceses that experienced crises, Ika Diocese has been peaceful and progressive. Continuing, he enjoined the Anglican faithful of the Diocese extraction to co-operation and peaceful existence from the first Ika Diocesan Dispensation to the incoming one.
Speaking further, Prof. Nwadiani, commended the Clergy and Laity for the rough journey to the glorious growth of the Diocese for the seventeen years under reference.
The awardees included the first Synod Planning Committee Chairman, Sir, Chief Arthur Okowa; the leader of the Diocesan Anthem composers, Sir Sam Ileh, first Deputy Chairman, Hon. Justice , Chief Sylvester Ehiwario; the designer of the motto and Diocesan logo, Ven. Pat. O. Okoh; the first Treasurer, Humphrey Ofili, Diocesan President of Anglican Youth Fellowship, Sir Chukwuekwu Agbontian and the first Registrar of the Diocese, Sir Barr. & Lady Andrew Elueche.
Others are Dr. & Barr. (Mrs.) Festus Goziem Okubor, Dame Mabel Egede, Lady Esther Mgbakor, Sir & Dame Dr. Shedrack Omumu; the first Auditor, Promise Ehiobu, Sir & Lady M.C. Unuwovo, Ezinna & Ochirigwe P.S. Nwakor, Sir and Dame Ignatius Erigbuem, Chief & Mrs. Emmanuel Mbulu, Sir & Lady C.N. Onwubuya and the first Bishop’s Chaplain Ven. Dr. & Mrs. Jonathan Adudu.
Those who got post humous awards were late Barr. Geoffry Ohen (first Chancellor), Chief Felix Iweriebon; late Prince Emmanuel Usiade; the first Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Canon G.C. Onwudiegwu and Ezinne Mrs. Janet Ogbuigwe.
