Reacting to the statement made by the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor, on Communications, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe that the Delta State Government was not aware of any serious insecurity challenge in Ika Land, the Founder, Chief Dr. Ehijene Science Competition and the Unwagwe of Abavo Kingdom, Dr. S. Ehijene has charged the public to disregard what Fred Latimore said on a live Sleek FM Radio programme, on April 23, 2024, saying that Ika nation has the highest record of insecurity challenges in Delta State.
According to Dr. Oghenesivbe, “Issues of land disputes and cult related activities should not be mistaken for a serious insecurity challenge if that according to him is what is playing out in Ika Land.
“No one had in any medium informed the state government of any recent kidnap activities in Ika Land either on newspaper or electronic media. He called on the people of the area to always speak out any time they experienced threats against peace and safety of lives.
Reacting, Dr. Ehijene stated that he was totally disappointed after reading what Dr. Oghenesivbe said concerning the state of security in Ika land on the newspaper.
According to him, “I want to use this opportunity to correct that impression of Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe. It is very wrong, very, very wrong because Ika nation as we all known today is no longer the Ika nation we used to know.

“Everybody is afraid. Our people no longer go to farm to plant nor harvest their farm products because of fear of being kidnapped.
“The most annoying aspect of Dr. Oghenesivbe statement is that the Delta State Government was not aware of any serious insecurity challenge in Ika land, a constituency where political leaders who control over 55 percent of the leadership affairs of Delta State come from.
“Maybe, before until the kidnappers start coming to kidnap people from their respective homes, the Delta State Government will be aware of our security challenges.
“If truly that the State Government is not aware of any serious insecurity challenge in Ika land, it means that our representatives at the Delta State House of Assembly are not representing us well,” he said.
Continuing, Dr. Ehijene disclosed that the worst part of it is that the Military and the Police are in Ika land, seeing and hearing all these things happening to the people. He said that reporting such matter to the police will even worsen the whole thing.
He advised the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Francis Sheriff Oborevwori and his State Executive Council to visit the various Communities in Ika land so that they can be aware of what is going on in area.
He advised Ika residents to be very careful how they spend time outside, particularly in the night. He also advised the Traditional Rulers and political leaders in Ika land to do something about the matter.
