The Local Education Authority, Ika North East, Led by the Secretary, Hon. J.C. Aleh, is set to host the Maiden Edition of Local Government Chairman’s Football Cup Competition amongst Primary Schools in the Local Government Area. The maiden edition of the epoch event is billed to kick start on February 12, 2018 at Obaigbena Primary School, Owa-Oyibu.
Speaking to newsmen, the Sports Officer of the Local Education Authority, Mr. Chukwuma Ibeh stated that the Local Government Chairman’s Football Cup competition is geared at introducing and improving sporting activities in Primary Schools, across the Local Government, keeping the pupils fit and motivated.
The LEA Secretary, Hon. John Aleh while saying that the importance of sports cannot be over-emphasized, said, football is a veritable tool in unifying a people.
According to him, “the Local Government Chairman’s Football Cup competition is an avenue to foster unity amongst primary schools in the area through football, to discover young talents yet to be discovered, engage the pupils, entertain them all through the period of the competition, and also compliment the SMART AGENDA of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
“Football is one game that brings people together, it cuts across ethnicity, cultural diversities, classes, and religious beliefs”.
The Local Government Chairman’s Football Cup competition will be co-sponsored and hosted by the Local Government Chairman, Hon. (Barr.) Victor Ebonka, and the Local Education Authority.
The Matches will be played by pupils across schools in Owa Zone, Umunede Zone, Igbodo zone, and Ute Zone.
The winners and runners up of the competition are expected to go home with mouth whetting prizes.
