The Chairman, Ika South Local Government Area, Hon. Barr Victor Okoh has charged market men and women in the local government to embrace a proper waste disposal method by patronizing Private Sector Participants (PSP).
He gave this charge while intimating the traders of the duties of the environmental task force, at his office on Tuesday 12th June 2018.
Speaking to the executives of Market Men and Women Association, Ika South Chapter, the Council Boss disclosed that he is concerned with improving the sanitation system in the local Government and the markets especially. He noted that while more markets will be built, it is essential to maintain the already built ones.
In the same vein, he urged them to be law abiding by registering with waste disposal companies and also pay their tax as at when due to allow a smooth sail and avoid falling victims of the bye-laws.
Addressing the challenges of the traders, the LG Chairman assured them that in no distant time, it will be a thing of the past as the council is working towards it.
The Council Boss however frowned at road side trading by market women in some markets in the local government, which leads to traffic jams along such roads, stating that the task force has been empowered by the law to checkmate such traders. He disclosed that there will be strict penalties for anyone who is found wanting in such regard, so as to serve as deterrent to others.
Responding, they applauded the Chairman for his renewed quest to ensure that he restores cleanliness in the markets and Ika South at large. Showing their support and wiliness to comply with the laws, they in turns proffered solutions on how to ensure that the markets are clean and also check mate offenders.
