LG POLLS: IKA SOUTH PDP ASPIRANTS HARMONIZE

A Cross Section of Councillorship Aspirants

Over 70 members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State who indicated interest as aspirants for councillorship and chairmanship positions in the coming Local government election have harmonized.

This development which was greeted with joy in the party was held in a peace meeting arranged for the party leaders and the aspirants, by the party’s local government chairman, Hon. Collins Bello, to unite defeated aspirants during the primaries conducted in various wards.

The defeated aspirants were encouraged to exercise the spirit of sportsmanship by taking a bow as a gesture of their loyalty and support for the party at the main elections which have been fixed for January 2018.

While addressing the gathering, Hon. Bello appreciated the party members for the peaceful conduct of the contest; noting that he was pleased with the indication of interests by the aspirants to serve, but, explained that it is only one person who can occupy an elective seat at a time, hence the need for the election where the delegates have chosen their representatives.

He added that, “having conducted the election and candidates having emerged, it is therefore imperative that all contestants put their differences behind and work together for the overall victory of the party at the poll.”

One of the aspirants, Comr. Simon Boi, who responded on behalf of the defeated Councillorship aspirants, thanked the party leadership for deeming it fit to call for the peace meeting. He affirmed that the election was free and fair, adding that since the masses who they which to represent had elected their candidates for the elections, it is necessary for them to join force and forge ahead with the party rules and objectives. Mr. Cosmos Igbeniji, a Chairmanship aspirant on his part described the party zoning of the chairman position to Abavo as a step towards the right direction.

He explained that the outcome of the consensus was a victory for all, adding that those of them present at the meeting should reach out to their colleagues who failed to attend the meeting. This according to Mr. Igbeniji should be made as a point of duty to enable them work together for the governorship election.

Meanwhile, one of the party Leaders, Comr. Godwin Ezedom in his vote of thanks appreciated God for giving them fair weather all through the election. He also lauded Hon. Collins Bello and Hon. Festus Okoh, member representing Ika South Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly, for standing firm towards making the primaries; One of the most freest and fairest elections ever held in the area.

While advising the aspirants to continue to work together, Comr. Ezedom further emphasized the reason for the primaries, noting that what they had witnessed was an experience they should continually learn from, saying that for those that were not favoured today, tomorrow could be their turn.
