In a quest to serve Ika land better, the management and staff of Ika Weekly Newspaper recently underwent a two day refresher course in order to improve on their core motive, which is to bridging the information gap.
Facilitating the two-day course, Dr. Ben Nwanne, a seasoned journalist and an Associate Professor of the Department of Mass Communication, Delta State University,Abraka and the author of the book Essentials of News Reporting and Writing, stated that journalism is one of the professions where excellence counts.
The lecture which took place at the corporate office of Ika Weekly Newspaper at 215 Old Lagos Asaba Road, Agbor, had in attendance, the management, reporters, proof readers and personnel of the Computer Department of the Media House.
The resource person, Dr. Nwanne stated that journalism is about Networking, which can only be achieved through team work. Continuing, he emphasized that for one to be a good writer, such a person must be a good reader, stressing that the profession is one that keeps people on their toes.
In the same vein, he commended the staff and management of Ika Weekly Newspaper for their consistency in bridging the information gap in Ika land, while urging them not to relent, but rather do more.
Some of the major topics outlined at the highly educative lecture include; Review of Ika Weekly Newspaper, Information Gathering, Investigative Journalism, Editorial Pillars, Mass Media and the Law, Ethics in Journalism, Good Writing ( an approach to style) and other vital information.
