Young people of Ika ethnic Nationality have risen to increasingly advocate for their voice to be heard in politics and policy making in a bid to encourage good governance. This development is being powered by a formidable youth organization under the auspice of Ika Youth Assembly whose mission is to also create an avenue to educate the Youths on the role of elected office holders, their functions, limits of power and youth effectiveness in community development.
In a press conference organized by the coordinator of Ika Youth Assembly, Comrade Chibuzor Aliogo who was joined by some members of this team, described Ika Youth Assembly as a non political organization seeking the involvement of youths in politics and polices for good governance and community development as enshrined in the “Not Too Young To Run” mantra.
He explained that the Ika Youth Assembly also presents enormous opportunity in achieving an inclusive and sustainable future that no one is left behind.
He advocated that, “Together we can build the needed team to change the mindset of the youths, campaign all over our communities by way of fostering dialogue and generating partnership between exceptional youths, civil society, private sector and government.
In line with their vision, Comr. Aliogo announced the maiden edition of their summit with the theme, ”The Role of Youths in Politics, Good Governance and the Effect of Elected office Holders in Community Development”.
He explained that the summit which will be one day event will hold at the State School of Nursing Hall, Agbor on September 30, 2017 and its guest speakers will include, Rt. Hon. Sam Obi, Sir Anthony Chuks Obuh, Hon. Festus Okoh, Hon.Tony Eleokwuri, Barr. E.A. Uzum, Mr Festus Ofume, Comr. Emeke Asiwe, Mr. Iwegbu Chucks Justus, Amb. Paul Alika, King Nnamdi, Micheal Egwabor, Queen Wanda Monye while the democratic panel will include Engr. Wisdom Meddon, Mr. Tony Alika, Mr. Johnny Mamba, Comr. Mike Ikeogwu, Barr. Ifeanyi Williams Aghaolor among others.
He added that the summit which will be followed by a massive independence Mega rally slated for October 1, 2017 will have in attendance thousands of youths from Ika land. This event he said will prove that the youths are set for a takeover.
