The Honorable Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Barr. (Mrs.) Mary Iyasere on Wednesday 18th April 2018 commissioned Agbor-Nta market in Ika South Local Government Area.
The six (6) block market with sixty (60) stores Agbor-Nta market built by the State Government was after the commissioning handled over to Ika South Local Government Chairman, Hon. (Barr) Victor Okoh who was also on ground to receive the commissioner.
Hon. Okoh in his address said the market which signals another completed project by the State Government is in line with the SMART Agenda of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The Council Boss while appreciating the Governor for the project, charged Agbor-Nta community to guard the facility and ensure it is maintained and used optimally.
He opined that the market will boost the economic activities of inhabitants of the host community. In the same vein, he appealed to the Commissioner to use her good office to assist the Council in relocating the neighborhood market popularly known as Musa Slaughter Market, saying that it cannot co-exist with the Trauma Center being built around same vicinity.
Giving her address, Barr (Mrs.) Mary Iyasere asserted that the State Government is interested in the well-being of traders hence the decision to build a market for them.
Handing over the market to the Local Government Chairman on behalf of the State Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, as is the policy of the state government, the Commissioner noted that it is the duty of the local government council to manage the market, and ensure it is allocated judiciously. She urged the chairman to always coordinate the affairs of the market, and ensure a smooth sail of operation.
Responding on behalf of the benefiting community, Mr. Efenwongbe J. O. expressed happiness over the project. He stated that the entire community is happy with the efforts of the state government led by Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, saying that they will put the market to good use.
Hon. (Barr) Okoh responding to the host community appreciated those who provided the land for the project, declaring that those persons will be given free stores in the market as a way to appreciate them for their sacrifice. He assured the people of more projects in the community, charging them to continue to give their support to the state government and the local government council.
The market is fully equipped with water supply, a generator, toilets and bathrooms, security building and perimeter fencing.
Side attractions of the commissioning were the rendition of songs and dance by men and women of the community in expression of their joy.
Also present at the Agbor-Nta market commissioning were: the Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon. (Mrs.) Patience Agboma, Head of Personnel Management, Mr. J. N. Okonta, the Treasurer, Mr. Ijeh Dominic, Deputy Director Admin, Mrs. Ebite, NULGE Chairman. Comr. Lawrence Onahor, Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Mobilization, Mrs. Cecilia Ogborenteri, Heads of Departments, members of the Legislative Arm led by the leader, Hon. Evans Ughe, Supervisors and other council staff.
