In line with one of the core focus of the SMART agenda of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa led administration for a cleaner and safer environment, Keep Ika Clean Initiative will on Saturday, September 30, 2017, embark on sanitation exercise.
Speaking with IKA WEEKLY NEWSPAPER reporter, Mr. Christian Paul Egiliwe, the founder of the group, stated that the primary aim of the organization is to have dirt free Ika nation. According to him, “leaders are known for setting a pace. Ika land is the home of Governor Okowa and as the number one citizen of Delta State; many people are looking up to him to be the first to set an example. To this regard, Keep Ika Clean Initiative is looking forward to where Okowa’s home town (Ika land) will be seen as one of the cleanest areas in the state. It is of note that presently Ika nation ranks among the dirtiest areas in the state. Whenever it rains, the urban areas of Ika land like Agbor and Boji-Boji Owa town turns into a dump site as heaps of waste are indiscriminately littered on the roads by residents. This is our maiden sanitation exercise and we are commencing at the busy College Junction area to clear the drainage, debris around the pedestrian and illegal dump sites. To ensure that efforts are not defeated, we will frequently go round sensitizing our people on the needs to desist from dumping refuse indiscriminately as it is obvious that our people lack sensitization of what a cleaner and safer environment is to their well-being. In keeping to our vision, I am rest assured that with Keep Ika Clean Initiative that Ika land will soon wear a new look.
He used the opportunity to appeal to willing youths in Ika nation, groups and all who the cleanliness of the area matters to; to please join them at starting point of the sanitation exercise dated to hold September 30. He said, he believes that many people will join them as it is a sanitation day.
