The Founder of Keep Ika Clean Initiative, Mr. Christian Paul Egiliwe has stated that the aim of the group is to see Ika nation ranks the cleanest and neatest community in the state and beyond. He stated this during an interview with newsmen during her maiden sanitation cleanup exercise held recently.
In his words, “I am happy and thankful to God Almighty that our first cleanup exercise recorded a huge success. I must say the turnout of the youths for a start is a very impressive and commendable one. Keep Ika Clean Initiative stands to clean up the dirts in Ika land and make the area dirt free. Through this medium, we enlighten our people that we can no longer continue to wait for the government assistance for everything but in our own way we can do the needful to better the lives of our people and make progress. We believe in engaging ourselves to do the little we can to help and make lives better in Ika land. Just as the saying goes that a little drop of water makes an ocean; the needful effort put and seems little is what Ika land needs to thrive in her development.
This is a call for all sons and daughters of Ika both at home and abroad to come out and offer the little assistance in any way they can and if this is done, it will help speed up the growth and development of Ika land. The beauty and development of Ika nation lie in our hands. The era when we keep hoping the government has passed. Majorly all the roads that are now in their worse state start from a scratch that its residents and passersby can easily help to manage by patching but allowed to wear off to a state that we start calling on the government to come to our aid. Let everyone in our own little way do something that will help Ika land grow. Let no one undermine whatever he or she see will better Ika nation. Let us all wake up, especially our leaders and encourage initiatives like this that are contributing. We are aiming at a time when streets and corners of Ika area will be swept daily and refuse properly disposed. We have commenced the sanitation exercise by clearing the debris blocking drainage and pedestrian walkways along the college junction/Ime-Obi road axis”.
He revealed that the cleanup exercise will hold last Saturdays of every month, appealing to able bodied youths, groups and organizations to join them during the exercise. He used the opportunity to admonish the youths who are thugs and errand boys to politicians for little stipends to have a change of mind and get themselves engaged in things that matter and will promote their well being. He advised that since he is looking out for ways to ensure proper sanitation of Ika environs that youths should come out with other ideas which when put to use will prosper Ika land, rather than living a life of dependence. He further stated that the sanitation of Ika land is poor, saying that its markets and streets are eyesore whenever there is heavy down pour, as some of the residents see it as an opportunity to dispose their heaped refuse. According to him, “the selfless service we have embarked on will be more tasking when every child, youth and adult fails to dispose whatsoever that is keeping our environs unkempt. But we will make progress when everyone learns to keep their surroundings clean. This also helps to promote hygiene and prevent malaria which is caused by a female Mosquito bite. Health they say is wealth and our health is tied to our environment. Give help for Ika land to grow”, Mr. Egiliwe told residents.
He appealed for supports and sponsorship, thanking all who supported them to ensure that the exercise commenced, most especially Smart Ajaja, an Abavo US based, Hon. Paul Ebede, C.S.P Akintunde Oyeniran, Divisional Police Officer, Agbor Police Divisional Headquarter, Rotarian Barry Eka, Efam Ndidi Felix, members of Onu-kokome, Abuja branch, and his friends Daniel Iweruwa and Elijah Osaimore, praying God to bless them.
Persons who stopped by during the cleaning up exercise appreciated Egiliwe and his team for their good works and enjoined them not to give up.
