LATE BARRISTER BENSON IKOKO MELEKWE LAID TO REST

The remains of a legal luminary, late Barrister Benson Ikoko Melekwe has been laid to rest at his home town in Igbogili Quarters, Abavo, Ika South Local Government Area Delta State recently, amidst grief, shock, encomiums and eulogies from family members, friends, political associates, Onu Ika group and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Agbor branch. The interment which started with a special court session at the Federal High Court Agbor saw members of the Bar, NBA members pay their last respect to their departed colleague whom they described as a dedicated man that was dear to all.
Austin Beinose ESQ, Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association Agbor branch described the news of the death of Bar. Melekwe as a shock, especially as it coincides with the date of his birth, August 1st. He further described him as a brilliant and fearless advocate, who will be sorely missed by many.
The funeral mass held in his honour at St. John the Baptist Church Agbor, saw Dr. Cairo Ojougbo, Rt. In his sermon during the mass, Rev. Fr. Mario Stephen Edward described the late Legal Luminary as a jolly good fellow who died a good death, being that he led a good life, and died in the Lord. He charged all to live a good life worthy of emulation and do well to all men as no one knows when death would come. He further stated that we will not be judged on the last day based on the wealth amassed on earth, but rather, we will be judged based on the Mercy we have shown others while on earth.

Late Barrister Melekwe, who was interred at his town after the funeral mass, was born into the family of Late Mr. and Mrs. Melekwe Okonta, on the 12th of May 1967 at Ibogili-Abavo. He started his educational career in 1973, and was called to Nigerian Bar on the 15th of December 1993. He was married to Mrs. Theodora Melekwe, and was blessed with four lovely children who will miss him sorely. A reception was held at Igbogili Primary school Abavo, with Sir Tony Obuh, Rt. Hon.
