Man Harvests 5 Feet Cassava Tuber In His Garden

Some residents, especially farmers in Umunede in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, have applauded a farmer who recently harvested over 5 feet cassava tuber in his garden.

The farmer, who does not want his name on print disclosed that the five feet cassava tuber was uprooted along with other cassava tubers, though not as big as the giant tuber, but said they were all harvested from one cassava stem.

The sight of the one year and five months old cassava tuber attracted many in the area as they described it as one of the biggest and largest cassava tuber they have ever seen.

While speaking with Ika Weekly Newspaper reporter, the proud farmer revealed that after processing garri with the tubers, he had one full basin of garri, saying that he was indeed elated and grateful to God for such blessing.

The farmer explained that he harvested the towering monster cassava in his garden where no inorganic fertilizer was added, saying that though he never weighed it, but said he transported it to his house with a motorcycle as it was too heavy to carry home with his hands.

He pointed out that he has already replanted the cassava stem that produced the giant cassava tuber, saying that with high hope and God on his side, he will surely harvest same or bigger tubers next time.
