According to her, “The birth of this association was made possible by an old student sister, Roseline Odozi, a class of 1978 to bring together Old Girls of Marymount College living in the Diaspora.
“We held our first reunion in 2016 in Maryland, USA. At the reunion, we decided to take on projects based on the needs of the school, as presented by the then principal, Rev. Sister Winfred Diagboya.
“Our first project by the alumni was the execution of N25,000,000.00 project for the fencing of the school, which was completed between 2019 and 2020.
“From 2019 through 2021, the association began and completed the re-roofing of the refectory and St. Cecilia’s dormitory.
“Also, the association has helped in advocating for a safer environment for students’ learning.
“In 2023, the alumni supported the college by providing computer sets, installing five industrial fans, five solar security lights, and different musical instruments to the tune of N5,000,000.00 (five million naira as part of the 70th-anniversary celebration).
“In 2018 and 2022, we have awarded scholarships paying the tuition fee of indigent students to continue supporting girl-child education”.
Continuing, Dr. Mrs. Uhurebor stated that the WAEC and NECO enrolment fees donation of four million, two hundred ninety thousand naira was in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of their alma mater, which according to her has produced many noble women. She said the donation is equally in appreciation and continued support of the school and the education of the girl-child.
She concluded by reiterating the USA/Canada Alumni support, stating that it’s a priority to them towards giving back to the alma mater. While applauding the school management for sustaining her excellent academic standard as the best school even in old Bendel State, Dr. Mrs. Uhurebor encouraged the students to take their studies seriously to continue to make them proud to do more for the school.
The cheque presentation was received by the school’s Principal, Rev. Sister Joy Gertrude Okonkwor amidst overwhelming joy among the SS3 students and appreciated the USA/Canada Alumni for their endless love for their alma mater.
