The unexpected death of the heir apparent of Mbiri Kingdom in Ika North East LGA of Delta State, Prince Evans Iyare, has left residents of the community in shock. The news of his demise which came in on Sunday, September 22, 2019 attracted large number of people to Kifa hospital, Umunede as they all said they believed the death of the heir apparent was not ordinary.
The confirmation of his death by the doctor at about 12:30 pm triggered the anger of the youths of Mbiri who were there at the time he passed on. When Ika Weekly reporters arrived at the hospital, the irate youths were seen preventing the hospital attendants from depositing the corpse of the prince in the mortuary as they were yet to ascertain the cause of his sudden transition.
The furious youths waited in the hospital for about 4 hours to see if the body of the prince could be resuscitated but it was to no avail as the doctor had earlier confirmed him dead. They eventually took the lifeless body of the Prince into the Ambulance and accompanied it to his home town. While approaching the agrarian community, the irate youths took the lifeless body of the Prince the palace, where they laid it on the traditional stool.
At the Palace, security agents were stationed to prevent chaos. At the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of the traditional ruler of the kingdom, HRM Obi Ifeanyichukwu Alikwe I, who though was said to be in safe hands, was still unknown.
Since the death of the crown prince Evans there has been tension in Mbiri Community. The following morning, the driver who came to convey his remains to the mortuary was given a hot chase after carrying the body and later rammed into Agbor Police Divisional Headquarters, Agbor for safety.
A situation which took the Divisional Police Officer (D.P.O) and the Agbor Police Area Commander hours to make peace before the body was allowed to be taken to the morgue. Meanwhile, the whereabouts of Obi Alekwe is unknown.

However the peace meeting held on Wednesday, Se involving the elders of the Mbiri, the executives of Mbiri Progressive Union (M.P.U) led by Dr. John Nwachokor and the youths ended inconclusive and was rescheduled for Saturday, July 28, 2019.
The Uwagule family, maternal relations of the late crown Prince had during the meeting presented a resolution of the family before they will allow the remains of their son to be buried. The resolution which was signed by Uwagule Friday, Uwagule Isitor, Uwagule Christian and Prince Chizoma Alekwe stated that a four bedroom flat should be built and completed in the premises where the late crown prince be buried and the engineer that will supervise the project be recommended by the Uwagule family, the next in line to the throne of Mbiri Kingdom should be relocated abroad alongside his family members for further education.
Also that they children of their sister (the first wife of the Obi) Queen Veronica should be well placed and established in their various fields and lastly that Queen Veronica Alekwe should be accorded the due regard and authority as the queen that she is.
The youth’s spokes person, Friday Odiase said the youths are fully in supports of the demands of Uwagule family, requesting that there should a turnaround in the ways issues are been handled in the palace which according him brought the demonstration by the youths as they are not happy at all.
