NIGERIA A NATION ON RAMPAGE

BY SNR. APOSTLE (CHIEF) EGWU NWACHUKWU GABRIEL

In the words of Edmund Burke, the Irish orator, the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is when the good keep quiet. Perhaps the best place to begin to address issues bordering on the current status of Nigeria as “A Nation on Rampage” is to succinctly elucidate the innate malaise bedeviling the nations leadership, and consequently, truncating all applaudable fiscal and monetary policies set out for the nations development.

That malignant malaise is rapaciousness. The leadership of this nation is incurably voracious and avaricious, given to obtaining goods by force and plundering the collective resources of the nation. They are akin to animals which subsist by thriving on preys.

So much has been said and written about failed leadership and political rascality over time but rather than fostering any positive changes the elite have doggedly remained recalcitrant. Not minding the reticence of the populace, the nation has nonetheless gone on rampage in many fronts. Of all the fronts, the following are most notable: moral rampage, political rascality, financial rectitude, religious rancorousness, judicial hocus-pocus, executive obfuscacy and purblind oligarchy.

As a collective consequence of all the other rampages, it is obvious even to the physically and spiritually blind persons that moral rampage within the nation’s polity has become so daunting and intractable. It has proliferated and equally decimated all social strata. A friend once made a joke that even fetuses in the womb have become ardent at fraudulent Info Tech manipulations. This is to underline how prurient the social psyche of the nation has become. Nigeria has become the global head-quarter of electro economic fraud, violent ritual undertakings, unbridled kidnappings and terrorism, hostage taking and mercenaries infiltration, divisionist and sectional filibuster, feminine demigration and degradation, parental bastardization engrossed in jeopardy, all promoted, by pervasive failure of the societal system.

Not even the churches, mosques and other religious bodies are spared by the social smear. Religious rancorousness occasioned by razzmatazz and Parade of cute con men on the pulpit has overtaken the quest for true salvation. This is despite the fact that the Holy Book is very categorical about necessity for leadership and punishment for evil government. By all intent and purpose, many religious leaders have violated God’s expectations for their role in the government of any land.

In the prophecy of Isaiah, it is stated that “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light and light for darkness that put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter; … Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! … which justify the wicked for reward and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him: … As a consequence, “Therefore, as the fire devoureth the stubble and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their bosom shall go up in dust” … (Isaiah 5:20-24).

Many religious leaders have contributed in no small measure to the political obfuscation pervading the national scenario, especially with their numerous fallacious prophecies usually contracted after money has exchanged hands. What we now have, is more of Robbers in Robes.

Talking about money exchanging hands, the judiciary, an erstwhile, or should I say supposed beacon of hope for all citizens has become one mangled edifice. The judiciary has, by what it has done and what it has failed to do, and by conduct helped to foster executive obtuseness and profligacy Justice has become commercialized and negotiable, going only to the highest bidder, the emergence of Bola Tinubu as a President in Nigeria is a good case in point it has become so putrid that even the Supreme Court does upturn its own judgement in different circumstances based on how much is involved.

The judiciary has festered audacious and insensitive leadership, owning to the fact that any government official can commit any crime and get away without consequences. This has by and large encouraged financial rectitude and recklessness in the management of the nation’s finances and administration.

Political rascality has become the order of the day to the extent that there are no more distinct ideological divides. At best what we practice now is a pot pourri of idiocy, a contortment that lumps together the progressives and retrogressive and reactionaries. To this extent, voting has become a mere charade and meaningless. It is a jamboree giving those at the helm of affairs a veritable conduit to siphon the nations resources in the name of organizing elections which true results are always dead-on arrival and fictitious results adopted and adhered to.

This political phantom has created a very dependent. Independent Electoral Commission with the Pseudonym INEC. INEC is more of a cantankerous contraption obtuse in all ramification. This is despite the perennial recruitment of compromising academics from citadels of lewdness that universities have become.

It is highly regrettable and at the same time ludicrous that our revered fathers in the age long corridors of traditional rulership have joined the foray for pieces of the action. Therefore, the traditional institution in the nation have become purblind, jettisoning the demand to wear the wisdom crown, but rather choose to tow the messy and slippery glassy path which makes them flatly refuse to see that history is gradually condemning them to its ironical dust bin.

These days emirship, Obaship, Obiship and Ezeship has become another arm of civil service where the sitting king is absolutely submissive and subject to the whims and caprices of a sitting government or president who holds only a transient position. It is so altruistic that the rope that crosses the foot path ask for the passersby to trod upon it. The Bible in the book of Hosea has it that:

They have set up kings but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold they have made them idols, that they may be cut off and cut off, they shall, full of agony and regrets.

Furthermore, the book of Proverbs 16:12 states that “it is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness” … But what can be said about kings that forcefully take away innocent and helpless people goods such as land, and make the widows and the fatherless to agonise and sleep in endless tears. Prov. 16:16

Finalizes by saying that rather than go cap in hand to politicians in Abuja or other state government houses begging for cuts of the national cake. “How much better is it to get wisdom than gold and understanding to be chosen than silver’

Nothing can be so much more demeaning than a wicked ruler. “As a roaring lion, and a raging bear, so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.”

Despite all the wickedness, greed and avarice of those in power it will however suffice to end this article by exhorting us all in the words of Apostle Paul to Timothy that: “First of all supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings, and for all that are in authority… (1 Tim: 2:1-2). Though many of them have sold their souls and consciences to Lucifer and signed different bounds with their own precious blood, nonetheless, the Lord of host is a merciful God and he shall save the innocent, the fatherless, orphans and windows from the vampires seated in opulence in different government houses.
