Members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State, recently, elected new Executive members led by Cormade John Onwubuya to help pilot the affairs of the union for the next four years.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen shortly after a brief meeting with the NUT Executive at his Boji-Boji Owa residence, the chairman, Comrade John Onwubuya expressed gratitude to God for finding him worthy of being elected the chairman of Teachers in Ika North East. He promised to discharge his duty with fairness and justice, appreciating all who inspite of the heavy down pour on that fateful day, came to support him. He also assured that he will carry everybody along in his administration despite their ages, tribes and political affiliation.
In addition, the NUT chairman advised the teachers in the local government to embrace unity so that the union will continue to grow and move to greater heights. He noted that all NUT members are one and that there is need for them to start working together, strategizing and planning on how to improve the capacity of the teaching/learning process across the schools in the local government. He promised to make an open door policy his top priority throughout the period of his tenure and be ready to accept useful advice from any member of the union.
Above all, the newly elected chairman assured that he will not fail to fulfill all the promises he made to his member during the period of campaigns and work harder to ensure that within his tenure, teachers (ANCOPS, AMPFION) will benefit one thing or the other from him and his executive members.
In a similar development, the 1st vice chairman of NUT, Delta State, Comrade, Aghaulor Nnamdi Obiajuru said his joy is that NUT in Ika North East Local Government has joined the ruling camp, through the free and fair election which he said took place in Ute-Okpu recently, and thirteen positions were won by members of the Teachers Liberation Alliance (TLA). He noted that as a unionist, he will ensure that everybody is carried along for the betterment of the union.
Speaking further, Comrade Aghaulor promised to mentain the challenges and welfare of the teachers in the local government as well as helping to pass messages across the state union from time to time.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Teachers Liberation Alliance (TLA), Comrade Peter Morka, Comrade Raphael Egede, 3rd Vice Chairman, NUT, Ika North East, Comrade Patrick Ekpenisi, publicity Secretary of the union, Comrade Friday O. Onyeie, the representative of the Delta State Teacher Security Investment Scheme thanked the entire teachers in the local government for their co-operation and unity towards the growth of the union. They promised to remain committed to the union’s affairs to ensure that the union moves forwards.
