HON. VICTOR NWOKOLO

The member representing Ika Federal Constituency in the National Assembly – green chambers and aspirant hopeful for 2019 general election, Hon. Victor Nwokolo on 14th of July 2018 consulted the leadership and stakeholders of People’s Democratic Party of Ika South ahead of the party’s primary slated for August 2018.

The meeting which was held at Pace hotel, Agbor, had in attendance leaders from the twelve INEC wards in the local government areas.

Speaking at the event, former Chief Of Staff to Delta State Government and the current chairman, Governing Council of Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi Uku, Dr.  Festus Goziem Okubor, while highlighting the importance of continuity in the Nigerian political system noted that it was imperatives for Ika Federal Constituency to converge at a time to discuss how the constituency would better be carried along through representation in the national politics.

Okubor who said in the legislative arm of government, developmental benefits to a constituency is proportional to longevity of the constituency’s representative, appealed to the stakeholders to consider this factor in their choice of representative for the green chamber of national assembly.

Also addressing the stakeholders meeting, Chief John Ehikwe while emphasizing the need for Ika nation to be more united, said the constituency was not oblivious of the fact that principal office holders in the National Assembly have higher chances of influencing development to their constituencies. Ehikwe therefore appealed to Nwokolo to include Ika South in his developmental agenda.

In his address, a foremost political leader in the local government area nicknamed “the guru”, Hon. John Nwagimejie who briefly highlighted on his visit to late Humphrey Iweriebon in 2006 over a purported rotational arrangement of house of representatives position between Ika North and South, said he  made it clear out right to the late political icon that such arrangement could not have been made without his involvement and therefore, it was nonexistent as far as Ika South was concerned. He enjoined the stakeholders to be mindful of the fact that the People’s Democratic Party has a leader who deserves to be respected. Accordingly, it is imperative in the best interest of Ika South to adopt negotiation as a political tool.

Furthermore, Mr. Garry John, an advocate of equity in his response acclaimed that he adopted the continuity mantra having followed closely in the recent time, Hon. Nwokolo’s track record.

In his response, Barr Victor Nwokolo said he was not in the gathering to tell the people he is the best man for the office he is seeking re-election for but solicit for the stakeholders’ support in the forthcoming primary. According to him,  despite being in politics, he was nurtured in accordance with the biblical admonition of Christ that enjoins Christians not to be like the Pharisees who go about disclosing their givings unto the needy.

Nwokolo further remarked that in the last couple of years, he has a good number of human and infrastructural projects sited in different communities within his constituency of representation, appealed to the people for their support. According to him, he is passionate about the welfare of the people in line with Christ’s expectation of all men. For him, the love of God has kept him going and as such, must treat every man as equal.

He promised to give great representation to Ika Federal Constituency when re-elected in 2019.
