OUR KING AND HIS DEADLY RESOLVE AGAINST US – CAC

Apr 14, 2025

OUR KING AND HIS DEADLY RESOLVE AGAINST US

We are members of Concerned Agbor Citizens (CAC). It is a male group exclusive to only Agbor people with visible means of livelihood. We are development-driven. Our emergence was spontaneous.

Our decision to be on this path was very difficult but we do not have an alternative. It is a path of self-preservation. This is our story.

A few days to our New Yam Festival about seven years ago, Chief Louis Usifoh, Akpara of Agbor Kingdom, posted on a community WhatsApp group that the festival was unnecessary as our King was always overseas during important ceremonies. On the festival day, some people protested with placards to the Agbor palace, complaining of his unwarranted absence. They did same at the palace of Olihe of Agbor also referred to as the ‘Prime Minister’ who has not been seen in Agbor for decades.

The Agbor Community Union (ACU), the umbrella body of all community-based organizations, inherited the agitation and initiated a conference to address the issues. The fallout of the conference was a petition to the state government signed by ACU Executive, Chiefs and prominent people, highlighting the abdication of duties and responsibilities by Dein of Agbor Kingdom, HRM Dr. Benjamin Ikenchuku, Keagborekuzi I. Despite this strong petition, there was absence of commensurate response from the king. This led to another Special Conference where 17-point resolution was reached.  A communique highlighting the resolutions was widely circulated. Some of the issues contained in the communique are:

  1. Our King should celebrate our festivals such as Osiezi.
  2. Our king should dress in accordance to our tradition
  3. Our King should marry with a view to producing heir as tradition demands.
  4. Our king should begin to speak Agbor which is our major language.

Let it be stated clearly that in anticipation of far-reaching decisions at the conference, some chiefs and aides to the king invaded the conference hall with dangerous weapons to attack conference delegates. The conference documents including resolutions and attendance list were protected by smart youths in the conference. Some people especially members of the CAC were among the injured. Some arrests were made which followed a plea for mercy.

At a meeting of the CAC held far away from the Agbor Community Hall, some chiefs of our King invaded. This led to further skirmishes which resulted in an advertorial in both local and national newspapers by the CAC to highlight the dangers members face.

With sustained pressure and advocacy, the king returned briefly before traveling again overseas. On returning, he complained of inferno in section of the palace and also poor conditions of the building in the palace. We are forced to infer that the fire incident was a hoax and ploy to justify his refusal to stay on throne and bring his family, if any, back to Nigeria. Mr. Jim Ovia and Mr. Godwin Emefiele invested in building apartments in the palace.

On March 13, 2020, on the advice of Director of State Security Service to intervene over the brewing tension in Agbor, there was a meeting involving the King, PG of Agbor Community Union, CAC, DSS and Governor Okowa. The king was advised to listen to the opinion of the CAC and that the position of the CAC reflects the wish and thinking of the Agbor people. The next day, another meeting was held in Lagos where our King, Queen Mother, prominent Agbor stakeholders, ACU Executive and CAC attended. We honoured the meeting in spite of the ravaging covid-19 at the time because of the love for the growth of the kingdom. At the meeting in Lagos presided by Mr. Godwin Emefiele, a committee to develop timelines to implement the 17-point resolution was created. Members of the committee include: Mr. Godwin  Emefiele, Mr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, Admiral  Peter Elumah(rtd), Late Chief Sony Anumele Hon Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, Late Late Chief Larry Onyeche, Dr. Amaechi Ugboh and Mr. Echi Obue. Our King refused the implementation of the work of the committee.

Our king insists that members of the CAC were the drivers of the agenda to restore our cherished traditions and values. We were thus declared enemies. He made some people chiefs with a clear mandate to fight CAC. This was not attained because some of the chiefs are in tandem with the agitation

In February, Chief Sunday Obuseh, the Oweh of Agbor and one of the kingmakers, said the king was yet to complete his coronation. This position is yet to be denied by our King or his chiefs.

On 27th of March, 2025, some palace chiefs, native doctors and juju priests converged at the Agbor palace from where they left for strategic spots including area around Stevenson Hotel, chanting incantations, slaughtered dogs and mentioning some people in their curses. They mentioned Mr. Steve Ikpade, the owner of Stevenson Hotel and other members of CAC in their curses.

On the 3rd of April, 2025, our king invited some villagers to his palace, some of the villagers were given oath never to make public what happened at the palace. They cursed some members of CAC and reportedly ostracized every member of CAC. The people affected are waiting for evidence to confirm the ostracism before legal action is taken against our King and his co-travellers. For the sake of posterity, our king has said it is sacrilegious to ostracize any person in the kingdom. This is the reason he admonished the Ogbemudein Community when they reportedly did same to Chief Theresa Ugbobu, his confidant. The constitution of the country is waiting to address the issue when he is bold enough to confirm his actions.

It is necessary to put on record that Chief Sunday Ibude, one of the persons arrested for the attack at the conference of Agbor Community Union some years ago, said he was waiting for approval from our King to kill all members of CAC and destroy their properties. He said this and many other things in a viral audio notes. The audio notes will be circulated. He also said the people that are in court will be killed before the first hearing. Our lawyers are already addressing his unprovoked actions.

The claim by Chief Sunday Ibude is taken seriously because of his notorious records. Again, our king recently appointed him to lead the armed vigilante group known as ‘Agbor Gha Ihiun’. The king therefore, gave him the royal blessing to unleash mayhem to perceived enemies.

While we appeal to everybody to remain calm, we assure all that we are capable and have resolved to pursue the issues to the end. We have long buried fear and intimidation. We are however not averse to peaceful resolution of ALL issues.

Long Live CAC !

Long Live Agbor !! Kingdom
