The newly inaugurated Executive Chairman of Ika North East Local Government Area, Hon. Monday Hunkamma Odigwe has assured the people of Ika land that crime, kidnapping in particular will be a thing of the past.
Hon. Odigwe gave the assurance during his inaugural speech presented at the reception held in his honour after his inauguration by the Delta State Governor, Hon. Sherriff Oborevwori on Monday, July 15, 2024.
According to him, “Good things have come to Ute-Okpu Kingdom and the entire Ika North East LGA, my immediate constituency. Firstly, I want to appreciate immensely our maximum leader in the person of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the former Governor of Delta State, leaders of our party (PDP) and the entire good people of Ika North East for finding me worthy.
“I want to borrow the words of our House of Assembly Representative, Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola that it is our people first. I want to assure that this government is for Ika North East people and everyone will benefit someday.
“Also, I want to use this occasion to tell all that insecurity, kidnapping in particular will be a thing of the past. Ika North East is an agrarian Community and our people will go back to their farm work.
“Ute-Okpu is known for tapping the best palm wine and the tapper who has been chased by kidnappers will go back to business so that we will not experience scarcity of palm wine.
“I will not fail to appreciate all monarchs in Ika North East for prayers and support”.
Briefly speaking with newsmen, Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola and the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Charles Aniagwu said the victory of Odigwe did not come by surprise but by dint of hard work of the party across the local government areas of Delta State.
In their words, “Odigwe is a very refined gentle man who we believe have the interest of our people at heart to put them first. I encourage our people to support him because he is the close to the grassroot to lead the people well”.
On his part, the Ika North East LGA PDP Chairman, Hon. Chuks Agbomah stated that they have gathered to share in the joy of the new chairman of Ika North East Council, Hon. Odigwe on his swearing in, while stating that the electoral victory did not come on a platter of gold because their party campaigned vigorously for it.
Hon. Agbomah further expressed confidence in Odigwe to deliver his electoral mantra. He appealed to the people to have patience in the new chairman being a first timer and need some time to settle down to give listening ears to everyone.
Also responding, the Ward 9 campaign Director-General (DG), Ute-Okpu, Andy Young expressed joy that their struggle for Odigwe becoming the next council chairman has yielded the desired result.
According to him, “As Odigwe native name implies Hunkamma meaning the best will also remain the best in his administration. In all, his humility is second to none. As one of our provosts in Concerned Elites of Ute-Okpu, his service was without discrimination. I urged him to be focused and I believe he will do well. I thank Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for everything”.
