The Zonal Director, Post Primary Education Board, Agbor office, Mrs. Uju Omu and her team have ranked Owa-Nta Secondary School, Owa-Nta as one of the best government secondary schools in Delta State and beyond.
Ika Weekly reporter was present as at the time the inspection team visited the school, on Monday, September 11, 2017 to ascertain the turnout of both the teachers and students as schools in the state resumed for 2017/2018 academic works. Their remarks read, “Excellent, the massive turnout of teachers and students on this first day of resumption is impressive and commendable. Teaching which has also commenced show great seriousness to academic works on the part of the teachers and students Congratulations to the school Principal, Mr. Augustine Onyemekihia for your good leadership in Owa-Nta Secondary School”.
Also speaking, one of the Vice-Principals of the school, Mr. Ambrose Giweze stated that the school recorded 100% attendance of both teachers and students. According to him, “2017/2018 academic works have resumed fully in Owa-Nta Secondary School. As you can see, the students are seated in their various classrooms receiving lessons. I must say we are set for another new academic session. We started well, just as the students have shown zeal for education by complying with the resumption date. I am very happy with the leadership qualities of the school principal which has awakened the student’s interest towards teaching and learning. He is a good administrator worthy of emulation. What made Owa-Nta Secondary School different from others is the administrative capability of the school principal and staff. We are doing greatly academically. I appeal to all students to take their studies seriously by reading their books”.
The Secretary, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ika North East and a staff in the school, Comrade John Onwubuya expressed joy over the attendance recorded by teachers and students on the first day of resumption. He stated that in terms of academic and discipline, Owa-Nta Secondary School is the best even beyond the local government. He said their students can compete more favourably with students anywhere. He called on parents to come and enroll their children.
Mr. Augustine Onyemekihia, on his part commended staff and students for their cooperation, stating that with him there is no dull moment in Owa-Nta Secondary School and that teaching commences as school resumes. In his words, “I and my team of hard working teachers are doing our best to ensure that our students receive best education and which is in line with the SMART of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa led administration. The school which many people see as a bad school before my administration is now seen as the best school in the local government. With me lots of changes have come into Owa-Nta Secondary School. No more unruly behaviour from students, cultism is a thing of the past and now it is strictly all the way an academic business arena. My administrative style brought the changes. No room for hooliganism in the school. Students who are admitted into the school pass through serious screening. The orderliness maintain in the school has improve and arouse teachers interest towards teaching. The commendation from parents , good people of Owa-Nta Community and the way parents trooped into the school seeking for admission for their wards is a proof that my staff and I have done very well and it gives me joy”.
