The Head of Department, Ika South Local Government Council Environmental Sanitation, Rotarian Francis Nduka Ekih, has been installed the 14th president of the Rotary Club of Boji-Boji Urban District 9141. He was sworn-in at an installation and conferment of award ceremony of the Club held over the weekend at Pace Hotel, Agbor.
In his address, Rotarian Ekih thanked all the Rotarians for the support and confidence bestowed on him which served in his emergence as the 14th president of the club to serve and move the club to the desired heights.
While appreciating his predecessors for taking the club to the level it is as of the time of his installation, Rotarian Ekih stressed that his regime would improve on the quality of live of the people through environmental sanitation by way of preventive measures and collaboration with appropriate authorities.
He said, “we will help by evacuating refuse/waste to avoid contamination of consumable foods in market places, improve sanitation in public primary and secondary schools through prevention of indiscriminate dumping of refuse within school premises by providing quality waste bins with tight fitting covers, carry out public enlightenment programmes on basic hygienic practice, contribution to polio eradication as well as attract district/ global grant Project that will impact positively on our people”.
The new Rotary President solicited for physical, moral and financial support to enable the club which is non-political and non-governmental under his leadership to render service to the people.
Earlier in his remark, the immediate past President of the club, Rotarian (Dr.) Denis Etumoku Iweka, commended members for their immense contributions to humanity. He also expressed gratitude for the opportunity and support given to him in the past one year to lead the club.
Speaking further, Rotarian (Dr) Iweka enumerated some of the laudable projects rendered during his tenure and therefore encouraged his successor, Rotarian Ekih to strive to surpass his records as the rotary work according to him might be tasking but encouraging.
The installation ceremony which was held amidst funfair witnessed the club honouring four prominent residents of Agbor Kingdom with awards of excellence. The awards, was based on merit, saying that they have in their various field of endeavour impacted to encourage development in the society.
The awardees included, Hon. Fred Ofume, Mr. Aliagwu Chukwuma (JP), Alhaji Ahmed M. Yunus and Mr. Emmanuel Oluma Onyedu
