The Ika South Local Government Area Chairman of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mr. Madueke Egede, has during an interactive session with newsmen recently in Agbor, Ika South LGA of Delta State, disclosed that the party is fully set to takeover Delta State Government House, come 2019.
Speaking on the forthcoming 2019 general election, the Ika South LGA, SDP Party Chairman said they are prepared to take over the administration of the state, as they are putting all machinery on motion to emerge victorious in all the elective positions which members of the party would contest for. While recounting how the party came into being during the third republic, Mr. Egede stated, that Social Democratic Party of Nigeria, popularly known as SDP, was established as a political party to encompass the ideals of a center left political organization, explaining that it is a moderate party with a flavor for young radical intellectuals and socialists.
Continuing, he revealed that the party is geared towards concerted efforts to improve the People’s Welfare and fight for social justice.
Speaking further, he gave some reasons for the reviving of the Social Democratic Pary, to include; the credible democratic ideas of the SDP after the mass endorsement by the Nigerian electorate on June 12, 1993, general election, which gave room for the victory of Late Chief M.K.O. Abiola in an election that was adjudged the most fairest in the annals of our political history; some other reasons according to him is that, the party is a platform that will truly fight corruption in Nigeria and enthrone the rule of law, SDP is a congregation of Patriots and Social democrats that will give the people true representation, emphasizing that theirs is a rebirth of an ideological party with structural deliverables for the people, a truly national party for all Nigerians devoid of imposition and impunity, an inclusive party that opens its political space for young Nigerians to further their political aspirations; a party that is gender sensitive and also in affirmative standing with people with disability, assuring that the party will unify the Nigerian People and give voice and action to their aspirations and desires.
When asked by the reporter the reasons why members of the public have not been hearing about the party, SDP Mr. Egede, responded by saying that it was barely three weeks ago he resumed as the Ika South LGA Chairman of the party. He also hinted that the party secretariat is located at 149, Mariere Street, Agbor.
Speaking on the elective positions to be contested for, he stated that they have aspirants that would be contesting for the governorship, senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly elections. He was however, optimistic that the party’s candidate would eventually emerge victorious for the Delta State House of Assembly election.
Continuing, he revealed that the membership strength of the faithful within the local government area, is over one thousand.
He encouraged the citizens and residents of Ika Nation to affiliate and register their membership with the party, in order for them to join hands together in bringing the desired change that everyone is looking forward to in the State.
