9 men Chelsea were beaten by Burnley in a match to forget for the defending champions, at the Bridge.
The game took a turn when Chelsea captain Garry Cahil was shown a straight red card in the 14th minute for a foul on Defour. Burnley took advantage of the dismal to go one up through a Vokes goal in the 24th minute, after Courtois failed to clear the lines

Burnley doubled their lead 15 minutes later with a superb strike from Ward to compound the woes of the defending champions on their home ground, before the half hour mark. The goal was increased in the 43rd minute by another goal from Vokes, who was a torn to the depleted Chelsea defence.
Chelsea pulled one back through debutante Avaro Morata, with a flying header in the 69th minute. Chelsea whose woes were further compounded by  a  2nd yellow card shown to Cese Fabrigas in the 82nd minute pulled another goal back through David Luiz in the 88th minutes to make it 2-3, but Burnley stood firm to run out winners at the bridge on the opening day of the new premier league season .
