As the 2019 Delta State General Elections approach, the Delta North Co-ordinator, Committee for Defense of Human Rights (CDHR), Engr. Charles Okwuokenye has urged the officers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Security Operatives and Youths in the Senatorial District to stay clear of election rigging and votes buying during the election.

Speaking further, Engr. Okwuokenye advised the INEC officers and the security operatives to carry out their responsibilities professionally, noting that CDHR will not hesitate to petition anybody or group of persons found practicing such inimical act during the forthcoming election in the state and the country at large. He advised the youths to desist from being used as political thugs during campaign and election periods.
The human right activist asserted that with effect from the first week of December, CDHR will start embarking on a sanitization exercise to every household where they will educate and enlighten the masses on the need for voting candidates of their choice as well as the dos and don’ts during elections. He also assumed that CDHR has concluded plans to mobilize some of their officers to all polling units to monitor and ensure that the forthcoming elections are freely and fairly conducted
In addition, he noted that CDHR is a non political, religious, traditional organization, and that some members are politicians under different political platforms. As such, he said they do not discuss anything concerning politics in their meetings, saying it is not because they are against politics, but what they are doing or practicing is to protect the masses so that their human rights are not be infringed on they are not oppressed, or marginalized.
