STEER CLEAR OF OROGODO RIVER BANKS – OGBENMUDEIN COMMUNITY WARNS

The general public has been warned to desist from building permanent structures along the banks of Agha Kun – Stream, popularly known as Orogodo river as 300 ft away from the brinks of the river belongs to Ogbenmudein and the Ika South Local Government Council.

The warning was handed down on behalf of the community by the Chairman, Ogbenmudein Land Committee, Hon. S.N Okpali in a chat with newsmen at the Land Committee Secretariat along Baleke Street, Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area recently.

Hon. Okpali noted sadly that those engaged in erecting permanent structures along the Orogodo river banks have been warned severally, but have continued to be adamant. He pointed out that a time will come when the community or the Local Government will need to make use of the river banks, then those who have erected permanent structures will suffer the loss.

He stated that after the dredging of the river, the river shrank, and those who have land close to the river took it as an advantage to expand their parcel of land, as he disclosed that 300ft away from the brink of the river belong to the community and the Local Government.

He called on the Town Planning Office to ensure they do not approve any structure that the building plan of the structure encroaches on the aforementioned space.

He went further to urge both the town planning offices and the Ika South Local Government Council to investigate and ensure that those involved are informed of the consequences of their actions.
