Every day they say is for the thieves, but one day is for the owner of the house. This parable is best described the lifestyle of a 39 year- old man, Mr. Gift Ifeanyi, a native of Idumugbo Quarters in Ogbemudein Community, Agbor-Obi in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State who was apprehended for vandalizing electricity cable wires, used in wiring somebody’s house.

Ika Weekly Newspaper Reporter learned that the suspect, Mr. Gift Ifeanyi, after stealing the cables on Friday night/Saturday morning of October 16, 2021, from an ongoing building project, belonging to a retired police officer, sold the cables to one Hausa man who gave his name as, Miftahu Inusa, aged, 27. Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, Gift and his customer, Inusa were already at the Magistrate Court, Alihame Community, Agbor. Both of them were brought to the Court by the men of Agbor Police Area Command.

Narrating the incident, the owner of the property, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that properties in his ongoing building project started missing ever since he brought people who did the screeding of the house. He noted that he was thinking it was those people who came to work for him who were stealing from him, unknown to him that Gift has been coming to steal in the house.

According to him,” I came to the house on Thursday morning only for me to discover that the cables which I used to wire my house were vandalized. So, being a retired police officer, I decided to go to the site on the night of Friday/Saturday, October 16, 2021, to wait for whomever that stealing from me. When I got there, I hid somewhere around the premises. Suddenly at about 2: am on that day, Gift walked in and climbed up to continue from where he stopped, that was how God exposed him,” he said.

Also speaking on the incident, Mr. Oyewole, the Electrical contractor that installed electrical fittings as well as did the wiring of the said building, said he and his workers were already being suspected.

He said, “The boy vandalized the cable in the site l had completed; I and my boys became suspects. The owner of the house is a retired police officer he went to the building in the night and hid and was able to catch the suspect red-handed as he had come that night for another vandalization.

Confessing his evil deeds, Gift said he is an orphan, saying his late father, Mr. Ifeanyi Osegi was an electrician before he died and that it was through his father he learned the little he knows about electrical works. He also admitted that it is the Hausa man, Inusa that buys all the Cable wires he has been stealing from people. He, therefore, pleaded for mercy, saying that after this time, he will repent and give his life to God.

Also as at the time of gathering this report, the Chairman, LECAN in Ika land, Chief Simon Isiza, the Duke of Alizomor, and all members of the association were already celebrating over the apprehension of the culprits, saying their joy is that over 95 percent of Ika residents feel it is the members of LECAN that are responsible in the vandalization of cables and Electricity Transformers in Ika land.

They, therefore, advised the Police and the court to use him as a deterrent to other criminals by sending him to the Correctional Service Center, formerly known as, the Prison.
