Tragedy struck in Umunede on Monday, November 12, 2018 as a commercial motorcyclist identified as Madu Nwafor was crushed to death while his passenger who was identified as Elue Gift sustained an injury but currently receiving medical treatment at Kifa Clinic.
The accident which occurred at about 1pm along Umunede/Mbiri road gruesomely snuff life out of the teenager who is said to be an SS1 student of Umunede Mixed Secondary School. He was described by many who knew him as neat and hardworking boy.
Speaking with Ika Weekly reporter at the hospital, the passenger, Elue Gift thanked God for sparing his life. He explained that the deceased was carrying him to Newroad when the ugly incident occurred. He revealed that the accident was caused by the reckless and careless driving of a car driver. He noted that the driver was on high speed when he lost control of the car.
It was also gathered that the car belonged to a friend of the driver.
As at the time of filing this report, the driver who was responsible for the accident is now in custody of the Nigerian Police Force in Umunede.
