The Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa on Friday, August 20, 2021, commissioned Police Area Command Office Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area which was newly built and donated to the State by Mr. Jim Ovia, an illustrious son of Agbor Kingdom, through his Jim Ovia Foundation.
Appreciating Jim Ovia Foundation for the facility, Governor Okowa said “I am very excited to have this project built and donated by Jim Ovia, the founder of Zenith Bank Plc and Jim Ovia Foundation.
“It is good to have this type of serene environment for a police command and I am truly happy and I appreciate you.
“Too many things need to be done but the government cannot do them alone, that is why we keep calling on well-meaning individuals to find a way to help.
“This is not the first time you are coming to our aid and I am told that there are many more to be done.
“The good thing is that when a son of the soil is doing well, the only thing is to pray for him and request that he does more.
“So obviously, with the very good thing we are seeing here today, we are going to be requesting for more and more, and please don’t get tired of us,” he said.
“No doubt, the environment is very welcoming even though nobody prays to go to the police station.
“We are glad you have donated this for the officers and men of the police force to do their work very well.
“We want to say thank you for this because it will be a befitting place for our officers to sit and do their work.
“We will continue to pray for our brothers and sisters who have excelled in many places to be able to return home to help to improve the lives of our people,” he stated.
“Indeed, Jim Ovia is someone we are very proud of, and on behalf of the good people of Ika nation and entire Deltans, we say a very big thank you to him”.
The Governor called on wealthy Nigerians to support the government’s effort at fighting insecurity and other challenges facing the country, saying that government alone could not handle everything.
Earlier, the donor of the facility, Mr. Jim Ovia, lauded Governor Okowa for his outstanding accomplishments in the state, adding that the Governor has performed creditably well in the comity of governors.
Jim Ovia said he was motivated to embark on the project because of the security challenges in the area and promised to do more for the community.
“We have made this little contribution towards ensuring security, law, and order so that our community and state can be safe for our people to live their lives comfortably.
“We will do more in the area of education and security to better the lives of our people,” Jim Ovia added.
On his part, Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, lauded Jim Ovia Foundation for the donation, adding that it will help improve the security and lives of the people of the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Ari, commended Jim Ovia Foundation for the kind gesture, noting that the magnificent edifice was indeed a heart-warming one.
He implored all public-spirited individuals to reciprocate the kind gesture of Jim Ovia not just to the police but to other sectors.
Meanwhile, the President-General, Agbor Community Union (ACU), Mr. Larry Onyeche, while expressing his joy over the completion of the building project in its original site and the commissioning, said it is a dream come true and made possible by the big brother and son, Mr. Jim Ovia. He recounted his struggles through the ACU towards the actualization of the Police Area Command Office in Agbor, while on behalf of Agbor Kingdom, thanked Jim Ovia for responding to their cry for help to have the permanent office of the Police Area Command in Agbor built.
Highpoints of the ceremony were the commissioning of the project and inspection of facilities.
