Late Steve Ashien Left Behind A Good Legacy, Says Bereaved Wife

In a heartfelt show of solidarity and sympathy, Hon. Comrade Prince-Eromosere Joseph U. Erhomonokpaye, the Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Community Newspaper paid a condolence visit to Mrs. Theresa Ashien, widow of late Mr. Steve Ashien, the revered publisher of Ika Weekly newspaper, who recently passed on.
The wife of the Publisher of Ika Weekly Newspaper, as well as the Publisher’s Assistant, Mrs. Theresa Ashien during the visit described her late husband, Mr. Steve Ekiri-Mekiriuwa Ashien, as a wonderful man whose legacy will continue to live on.
She said, “My husband was a pillar of strength, a man of vision and courage, of which many people who encountered my late husband can attest to the fact that he was a great and wonderful man whose benevolence profoundly impacted the lives of many. He believed in the adage ‘live and let live’, which prompted him to raise great men and women”
During the visit, Mrs Theresa Ashien described the late media icon as a man of great integrity whose voice and pen shaped public opinion and promoted the values of truth, justice, and development in Ika land and beyond. She noted that the late publisher was not just a media practitioner, but a patriotic figure who used his platform to advocate for societal growth and the upliftment of the voiceless.
She pointed that her late Steve Ashien was her husband, boss, confidant and mentor. According to her, “Many who encountered my late husband can attest to the fact that he was a great man whose benevolence profoundly impacted the lives of many.”

“Late Ashien may not have left behind huge wealth, but a good name for which I am proud of as his wife and this alone gives me everlasting joy.
“I was married to a progressive-minded man; consistently extending a helping hand to those who sought his assistance, and I strongly believe that he is now at rest with his Creator that he served till the end. He was God-fearing and an ardent believer of the adage, ‘live and let’s live,” she noted.
She further said that Steve gave to humanity a lasting and commendable legacy which is going to be remembered by generations to come.
Mrs Ashien then commended the staff of Ika Weekly for keeping the company running especially when she was away nursing her husband in the hospital, and even after his demise, which shows their level of dedication, as such the newspaper has remained steadily on the news stand, demonstrating their dedication.

She thanked Hon. Comr. Prince and his team for the visit, prayers, and support.
The condolence visit drew attention to the immense contributions of the late Mr. Ashien to journalism and community service. Many have continued to pay tribute to the fallen media trailblazer, acknowledging that Ika Weekly Newspaper under his leadership was a beacon of credible information and developmental advocacy.
