The comedy ace, Chukwudume Bright, popularly known as DomeBright the Comedian, in an interview with Ebube J. Yeolawa during the week, spoke about his passion and fervour for comedy in Ika Land.

In this interview, we get sneak-peak into his life, hopes, aspirations as well as his upcoming show tagged, “DomeBright Comedy Crusade which is slated for December 26, 2020

Excerpts:

Can we meet you?

I am Chukwudume Bright, also known as Dome-Bright the Comedian.

Your talent?

I discovered my talent as a comedian on the 26th of December, 2016 during a competition that was held at the Ika Carnival which was organized by Hon. Sebastine Okoh. I was among the best five contestants out of over 30 other contestants.

The journey so far

So, it was actually after the carnival I discovered my talent and after which, I organized my first comedy show where I featured the likes of Eriga with gate fee of N200. The turn-up was massive but nothing was realized as profit. As a matter of fact, I incurred heavy financial losses but still, we continued.

The second edition, I invited …., they collect my money and my drink but they disappointed me without showing up. The third edition was held early this year in January where I feature I Go Die, Joe Morgan and so many others.

Any prior relationship with I Go Die?

I met I Go Die at a competition tagged, “Nwangu Francis I Go Die Path of Honour,” where we clamoured for the ‘Delta State Brian and Talent Ambassador.’ We were over 900 comedians that came for the competition with just a minute performance where I also qualified to be among the 5 best comedians. I was given N100,000, we exchanged contact and he advised me not to give up but to put in my best.

I made history in Ika Land by being the first entertainer to host I Go Die to Agbor on the 12th of January, 2020 and the show was the best of its kind.

In this edition being the 4th edition, I am bringing Gordons. Actually, DomeBright Comedy crusade started from the church, Voice of Solution Ministry and I invited an Ika musician known as Akuluba to perform. Though, he was not the main guest artiste but I resorted to him when the main guest artiste from Benin disappointed me. My resorting to Akuluba came as a matter of urgency. He was given five minutes to perform and after performance, the founder of the church, Archbishop Salvation Osamudiame, gave him a car and out of excitement, he fainted.

Though, I was not given a car, but that inspired me a lot because I felt I have been used to touch someone’s life; it’s a testimony.

Inspiration

My inspiration has been my motivation. Within me, I believe that someday, somehow, I will definitely get there because Rome was not built in a day. The pathway to fame is a gradual process. So, despite the ups and downs, I still believe with hardwork, I will get there. DomeBright Comedy Crusade has come to stay.

I have studied most of these comedians, I know how they started and I realized that almost all of them started from them scratch. The story of the few I have had the privilege to interact with really inspired me.

I Go Die once told me how he ate dog food in Alibaba’s house but today, he is a multimillionaire; he built a house of over N250million and handed it over to the federal government.

The walk to fame is a gradual process. I remember when I told people I was bringing I Go Die to Agbor during my January 12th show, many people doubted me while others thought I was using that to attract attention but to the glory of God, he came and was on stage for over an hour.

To the glory of God, the name is gradually becoming a brand. If I give up today, I will fail but if I continue; with our without anybody’s support, as long as God lives, I will definitely get there.

Performances and collaboration

By God’s grace, I have shared stage with some big names in the entertainment industry. I won Gordon’s comedy competition which was hosted on Instagram and emerged the winner. As a result of that, I performed at the Gordon’s Beliskoly which was held at Abuja. There, I performed alongside I God Die, I Go Save, Akpororo and Alibaba who was also in attendance.

I also attended Alibaba’s talent hunt at Museum Centre, Lagos. At the competition, I was No. 519. Although, I couldn’t make it to the best six but it was an eye-opener for me.

Awards?

DomeBright Comedy Crusade in the next 5-10 years

Dome Bright Comedy Crusade will be like AY Live and even bigger. I have faith and I believe so. Although, no sponsor but we have God.

About DomeBright Comedy Crusade 2020

DomeBright Comedy Crusade is the biggest comedy show in Ika nation, I am not boasting. In last edition we gave everything up to 99%. I Go Die was on stage, performed for over 1hour 30mins. Music artistes, Drama, Dancers were all on ground to thrill the audience.

In this year’s edition, we are making it bigger and stronger. We are bringing in those whom we have tested and are seen to be truth worthy and reliable to give people the value of their money and time. We are bringing in Gordons, Wizboy, Joe Morgan, Mr. Successful and lots more.

We will also be giving opportunities to upcoming comedians and music artistes in Ika nation because we know Ika nation has talents. These people will be selected through our auditioning tagged, “DomeBright Got Talents” show. We tend to get the best five comedians from this talent hunt and then, bring them up through our platforms because I believe we rise by lifting others.

Security is sure and the hall is beautiful and well ventilated.

Challenges

There are no sponsors or assistance in Ika nation. I have drafted and written proposals to well-meaning individuals in Ika nation, especially politicians. But I love politicians for one thing; they promise you but they don’t fulfill it.

The big names you hear today in the entertainment industry in Nigeria, especially in Warri or individuals like A.Y., Alibaba, Akpororo and others went far because of the assistance they got from sponsors.

But I will not fail to appreciate people like Dr. Donald Peterson and Hon. Sebastine Okoh; they have been of immense support to me.

Another challenge is that, Ika people especially those in this line of entertainment sees comedy shows as competition but they fail to realize that the sky is very wide for all the birds to fly.

I once shared a vision with some comedians in Ika nation, they discouraged me from it but behind my back, they went on to do it without even informing me. On several occasions, they have destroyed by banner for shows.

We move together by working together and not fighting ourselves. However, I am inviting everybody to this show; let us unite and work together.
